Black Men Bring Hope and Healing

Too many people accept the myth of absent Black men. Yet, here we are. In North Lawndale. Pouring our lives into the youth of our community, and their families.

We grew up here. We loved the summer sounds of our friends playing, the birds chirping, and the water gushing out of the hydrants. Today, we miss those sounds of summer and all too often hear instead gunshots, sirens, and screeching tires.

We share a common story of hustling in the streets, spending time in prison, and coming back home to try and undo the harm we had done. We have the benefit of years of experience and so without judgement, we provide food, various giveaways to make life a little easier for families, and of course our summer camp.

Our summer camp is free. We welcome the kids who can’t afford the park district’s fees and don’t have adults to look after them all day long. We hire locals who might have a hard time finding a summer job as a high schooler in North Lawndale.
